Sources of Inspiration

Today’s post is about beauty, because April is beautiful around here. Color and light is a source of inspiration for paintings. (Detail and light inspires my pencil drawings.)

On my way down to work at the Mural Gallery I stopped in the usual turnout for a photo of the lake.

On the way home, I drove over Rocky HIll and took many photos. This is a small sample, and there are lots of painting ideas here.

Any one of these photos could be turned into a painting. There are even more photos that I didn’t show you.

  1. You definitely have some great inspiration here! What a beautiful place!

    • Thank you, Michelle! I am looking forward to seeing photos of your area when spring arrives. Are you participating in the cool bloggers walking thing?

  2. I am officially jealous! It is snowing here – again! – today. And while the white stuff is beautiful, I’m ready for my landscape to look a lot more like yours!

    • Snow in April. . . Dang, already! Maybe that walking month ought to be moved to May. . .

  3. You have a good eye for composition. My grandfather Dixon did, too, and he taught me a lot about how to frame a photo, the importance of background as well as foreground, depth of field, etc. Who taught you the concept of what makes a photo stand out from all the others?

    • Thank you, Sharon. I took a photography class in college and was a yearbook photographer at another college. My work as a studio artist depends on good photography, and making good art depends on good composition. Composition is a difficult subject to learn, one I have struggled with since college, so I really appreciate your kind words.
