Invitation To My Other Blog This Week

This is my real blog. The Cabins of Wilsonia is my other blog. Sometimes I am confused as to which posts belong on which blog.

After seven years of blogging, my default position remains here. Sometimes I have to remember that I have another blog, now that The Cabins of Wilsonia is a published book and I’m not obsessing about it daily.

So, today and next week you are invited to my Wilsonia blog to read about a commissioned piece.

The title is “Incompetence and Awkwardness”.

Does that pique your curiosity?

Fourth of July in Wilsonia

Meadow Cabin

You’d think that when writing of the Fourth of July in Wilsonia that I’d show a cabin with a flag.

Instead, it is the sweet little cabin on a meadow without a flag.

Why?

Because it will be included in Wilsonia’s silent auction on Saturday, July 4.

She-Who-Runs-The-Silent-Auction thought this would have the most appeal, so here we go!

Yeah, yeah, I know I said I don’t give my art away.

Sometimes I do. Wilsonia has been good to me and I want to be good back to them.

The book, The Cabins of Wilsonia, is for sale there and here.

Neighborhood Bookstore

Since self-publishing has become relatively easy – maybe if it doesn’t involve 278 drawings and learning to use Adobe InDesign and Photoshop and a scanner and finding a printer and choosing your own paper and designing your own cover and dealing with a company that bids improperly and blames the customer – then perhaps it is easy. . . I wouldn’t know about that sort of self-publishing – but I digress.

Since the boom of self-published books, there are many people with their own book to sell. There are many just in Tulare County alone, which is rather astonishing given the fact that we are the 3rd least educated county in the state of California.

Excuse me. There I go again. . . What I meant to tell you is that I have the privilege of being included in a group book signing event in Visalia at someone’s home. Here is the invitation, because YOU are invited.

The Cabins of Wilsonia is my book. You probably knew that. 😎 It has many drawings, because it is a story of a cabin community told in pictures and quotes from cabin folks.

Wow. I’ve only met 5 of these authors and artists. This will be fun!

Wilsonia Book Signing Saturday!

Do you remember that I made a book on the cabins of Wilsonia? It is called The Cabins of Wilsonia, because I am Mrs. Captain Obvious.

Cabin Fireplace

Cabin Fireplace, pencil on paper, matted and framed to 11×14″, $200

Available here (will open in new window)

Notice the expression “made” a book . It is a picture book, with 272 (give or take a few) pencil drawings of, yep, you guessed it, the cabins of Wilsonia. There is writing, but it is minimal. It sounds funny to say I drew a book. Sounds too much like drawing the short straw. . .

On Saturday, April 4, from 3 – 6 p.m. I will be at the Three Rivers Historical Museum with my dear friend Louise Jackson, who has written many books. We will have our books with us, along with our pens for signing. I will also bring the original drawings from the book, some framed, some not.

Any questions?

You can read about the making of this book on my other site The Cabins of Wilsonia.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Captain Obvious

How To Buy The Cabins of Wilsonia Book

The Cabins of Wilsonia

Technology is still confounding me. If it confounds you, and you are either unwilling or unable to buy The Cabins of Wilsonia on Amazon, here are the other buying options for you:,

  1. mail a check for $86 to me at P.O. Box 311, Three Rivers, CA 93271
  2. send $86 via Paypal to “cabinart 06 at sbcglobal dot net” (have to write it that way so that the spammers don’t come wreck this eddress too) along with your mailing address
  3. run into me somewhere in real life and hand me $80 cash or a check for $81 and I’ll hand you the book (no mailing costs makes it cheaper in person and paying $80 in cash probably means no change will be necessary)

Any questions?

(I have lots of questions: How do I get the internet to work with the old desktop computer? Why did my printer stop working with the laptop? Why did my easy eddress stop working? Will there ever be a time when everything works? That would be A-MAY-ZING.)

Book Signing December 23

The Cabins of Wilsonia

Book Signing

Exeter Courthouse Gallery

125 South B Street, Exeter, California

12:30 – 5:30

Yes, I know 5 hours is a long time. That is the normal time for drawing lessons, and there are none in December so I decided to use the space and time for The Cabins of Wilsonia. Besides, the more spaced out it is, the more time I have to spend with each guest! Will you be one of them?

The Cabins of Wilsonia, $81 including tax (mailing adds $5)

The Cabins of Wilsonia Book Signing Today

Five pallets of 1529 books arrived at my favorite store in Three Rivers, the Mercantile. These people truly understand customer service.

Trail Guy backed the Bot-Mobile and trailer containing about 3 pallets of books up the driveway. (We used the other pick-up for the 2 other pallets – don’t worry, we didn’t leave them at the Mercantile!)

After moving all those boxes weighing 31 lbs. each, 2 lovely gracious friends came over and helped put cover decals on enough books for today’s book signing (I HOPE it is enough!!)

The Cabins of Wilsonia Book Signing

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 16, 12:30-5:30

Courthouse Gallery of the Arts

THE CABINS OF WILSONIA BOOK SIGNING

The books, The Cabins of Wilsonia, are supposed to arrive today. This may mean they arrive at some truck depot in Fresno where they sit over the weekend or it may mean a big rig comes to the hardware store in Three Rivers. (Bless Mike McCoy and the Three Rivers Mercantile for making their turn-around space and fork lift available to me!)

No matter when they arrive in Three Rivers, I will be bringing them (not all 1529, but a reasonable transportable amount) to Exeter’s Courthouse Gallery on Tuesday, December 16.

Here. Let’s make this easy:

  4. If you didn’t pay for shipping, bring your receipt and retrieve your copy.

  2. If you want a book shipped to someone, the price is $86. (Yes, I know it is a weird amount – I often specialize in weird.)

(This is because I don’t have a smart phone or a Square, because I don’t get cell phone service where I live – unbelievable, I know. Yes, I have AT&T. No, it doesn’t work at my address. Yes, I am sort of glad about that.)

The Cabins of Wilsonia In Transit!

We interrupt our regular blogging schedule with this important news flash:

The Cabins of Wilsonia, the book I’ve been slaving over for 3 years, is on 5 pallets in a truck depot in Cincinnati, Ohio, expected to arrive in Three Rivers on December 12!
