I have no intention of becoming a kitty–puppy artist. However, when I receive commissions to draw cats or dogs, if the photos are decent and I have the time, I usually say yes to those jobs.
This one began with sketches, as most commissioned pencil drawings do.
Not quite it. More sketches requested.
Mr. Customer chose C. Now we’re cooking with gas!
The printed photos weren’t detailed enough so I also worked from the laptop screen.
Mr. Customer changed mind about toy in front of dachshund. Back to the drawing board.
And thus we have 3 dogs all together, being quiet and well-behaved. Mr. Customer informed me that this NEVER happens. That explains why he sent me so many separate photos.
If you recognize these dogs, SHHHHHH. It’s a Christmas present surprise.

Hi! I like it better without the dog toy too. Clearer that way.
My daughter is loving her art class and learning so much from her instructor here. She is agonizing over the 24 pieces needed for the art portfolio though, and finding how often the striving for perfection impedes her from “turning it in.” Pray for her and us as she races to catch up her deadline rate for this spring?
How are you? I imagine Thanksgiving and Christmas were emotional and hard this year without your brother in law. I’m sorry.
Thinking of art, and you, and smiling from MN,

Thanks, Jennifer. I just delivered the piece, and the customer believes it will make his wife cry (in a good way).
That’s a lot of pressure on Morgan. After Christmas I hope to send you a real email to learn a bit more of what is required and maybe be able to offer her a few tips.
Thank you for your kind words. Something about holidays pumps up the volume on the sadness. We are missing Steve something fierce.
