In Mineral King, there are consistent signs that fall is coming. It may still be 105 down the hill during the day, but in Mineral King we know summer is about to be history.
The light is different, and the grass is as high as an elephant’s eye.
The water flows in a sluggish manner.
The deer are plentiful and the fawns’ spots are fading.
Not many wildflowers remain except asters.
Things have a yellowish tinge to them.

What helps you believe fall is coming in spite of the heat?

Jennifer, next time you can legitimately “keep” the apples by photographing them!
Melissa, bummer about cooler air messing with your lungs. Hot air messes with my psyche!
Diane, that is so very Southern California – thanks for the smile.
… fall is approaching when parking spots are once again available in Laguna Beach –
Hi Jana!!
Usually I can tell that it is getting to be fall when I have to start closing my windows because the evenings are too cold for my lungs. I start feeling this tight feeling in my chest before I get bronchitis stuff. So I have started closing my windows in my bedroom at night, all better!! Also, the light is at a different angle in my office and my plants like it.
Hugs
Melissa
Hi Cabinart!
I’m curious about this new phase. I grinned as I was skimming the last few posts: interview part deux, congrats on the acceptance of your pieces…. The photo of the clear river water in this post caught my attention.
And yes, I hope to plant an apple tree next spring. Can’t wait. I felt bad that someone else still wanted the apples I was wrongly taking. Drat!
