Jones p.s.

She was so weird – here are some pictures of how she drank water. (So I might be a little weird too, taking pictures of my cat drinking!)

  1. I used to have a cat that did that, too. I don’t know why, although I’ve heard they don’t like plastic bowls, and if the bowl is too deep, it’s harder to drink out of it.

And then there are my two cats, who manage to lower the water level in my fishbowl with great enthusiasm and speed! I guess they like the fishy taste. I try and explain what the goldfish “does” into the water, but to no avail! Fortunately, they don’t have a taste for sushi. Yet.

By the way, I figured out how to upload videos to my blog, and there is one of Stella in one of her catnip frenzies. Check it out!

  2. That is so interesting. I’ve never seen a cat drink water like Jones, and I’ve had many cats as pets over the years. Do you think their mothers taught them this?? Are they imitating their moms or older animals nearby? Our dog Puck always cleaned himself like a cat. He watched his older “sisters” (all cats) clean themselves, and copied them. His sister Raisin lived with us in Baton Rouge, and in Redondo Beach. She did not travel well, and after the move to Redondo Beach I only put her in the car to go to the vet, so she never made it to Three Rivers. She had been rescued at 9 months old, after being born in an alley, where all her siblings were kicked to death. She was the only survivor. She escaped by running away. She could “fly”. It was amazing to watch her go. But for many years she had no voice. She would open her mouth to “meow” but no noise would come out. She was adopted by our (rescued)(extremely talkative) mother cat and only after her new “mother” died did she even try to use her voice. As a result, it never got beyond a very scratchy alley-cat sound. I’ll have to tell you some more Raisin stories someday… Meanwhile, here’s the link to Simone’s eulogy for Puck: http://laist.com/2007/09/09/rip_best_dog_in.php

    Thank you for today!
