Just Another Day at the Easels. . .

. . .in a barely cool painting workshop in early August, but thankful for the swamp cooler. The day before, I stood the entire time while painting. This day I sat the entire time.

Thank you to Reader Anne for the suggestion of using an egg carton for the ornaments. It sort of worked, but I ended up holding each one in my hand. They are looking better, but still have many layers ahead. These photos are just more teasers about how they are moving ahead without revealing much except that Hume Lake will be on one side.

I touched up the 8×16″ of Farewell Gap in Mineral King, but you might have to see it in person to catch the improvements.

Since Kelly’s Sunset (also in Mineral King) has sold, I painted another one. I have altered the placement of trees from Kelly’s original photo, and altered them again in version #2. In these photos, I can see that the angle of the left flank of Vandever (peak on the right) is too steep. Will anyone else notice? Will the piece not sell? More will be revealed in the fullness of time.

P.S. UPDATE: the smaller sunset painting with the wrong angle on Vandever and a single tree sold immediately.

  1. These sunset paintings are stunning Jana! Wow! Love your ornaments- I can only imagine the hours spent on each one. Exquisite!

    • RACHELLE!!! Welcome to my blog and thank you for your compliments. I MISS YOU!!!

  2. I am sure it’s often a pain in the neck to prepare all the blogs- but it appears to be working! Happy that things are selling rapidly- not only for the financial gain, but also it’s affirmation that people appreciate your art.
I am now volunteering for FPNO. Which is Foster Parents Night Out. Once a month foster parents can drop off their children, biological and foster, at a centrally located church where they are fed, entertained, loved on, and they do crafts. That is the reason I even mention this. I put on the application that I would like to be involved in the arts and crafts or small group leader. I changed my ministry focus because the leadership role I had before wasn’t relational…..and I missed working directly with children. Well- they asked me to be the crafts lead. So once again, I’m leading a team instead of just being a little worker bee….which is really what I want. But they needed someone,,,,so here I am scouring Pinterest for fun activities from K-Middle school. No – we are not going to be painting Christmas ornaments…ha ha ha. Limited painting as the craft needs to dry in time for them to take it home.
Another reason it’s important for you to blog: it encourages people in their art. I shared my water color pencil passion with an artsy friend in Visalia and now she is giving it a try.
Whenever I am using one of my God-given talents I remember the line from Chariots of Fire where Eric Liddell says” I believe God made me for a purpose, but he also made me fast. And when I run I feel his pleasure.” That’s how I feel when I give art to my friends…..

Glad the egg cartons were somewhat helpful
    “Reader Anne” …..ha ha ha

    • Anne, one of your God-given talents is obviously encouraging others – thank you!
