More Cold in Mineral King

Last Friday, I had too many photos from our cold weekend in Mineral King to put them all in one blog post.

Yep, dandelions.
Paintbrush, formerly known as Indian Paintbrush.
Phlox
Bluelips
Languid Ladies, also known as Sierra Bluebells
A different view of the Honeymoon Cabin. Tiny in the distance – can you spot it?
This is a flowering shrub that I don’t recognize.
This is looking out the kitchen window. Brrr.
We took a short walk. Very brrr. Where is Farewell Gap??
Current bushes in bloom
Someone went barefoot on the deck last night.
The sun finally emerged, and it was still cold, but oh so very beautiful.

Most of the flowers in today’s post are identified in Mineral King Wildflowers: Common Names.

100 page paperback, flowers in photos, common names only, lots of chatty commentary, $20 including tax.
Available here
Also available at the Three Rivers Historical Museum, Silver City Store, from me if I put them in my car, or Amazon.

  1. Such beautiful pictures, enjoyed them all, thanks!

    • Thank you for checking in, Virginia. It is good to share my photos with folks who truly enjoy and appreciate them.

  2. Thank you for the walk. I’m with you every step of the way, even the footsteps on the porch.

    • Laurie, I thought you might enjoy those footprints!

  3. Beautiful photos … thanks for the names of the flowers …. and I think I found the Honeymoon cabin – or an outhouse ….

    • Char, I think the Honeymoon Cabin is the size of a luxurious outhouse.

  4. The blue lips caught my attention – there is a plant called hotlips- it’s red and white – the blossom is very similar! Hmmm wonder if the blue lips were blue because they were cold.

Plus – I always laugh at what Californians consider cold. Ha ha

Love love the original view of the honeymoon cabin!

I wonder if you painted a collection of wildflowers on small canvases if they would sell. The idea for people to buy multiple …. perhaps you have done that in the past. ?

    • Hi Anne,
Pretty funny about hotlips. And it WAS cold, doggonit! It’s good to hear your response to the first view of the Honeymoon Cabin – I wonder if it would be a good way to paint it some day? I have done little wildflower paintings in the past, and they were very slow to sell.
