Poppies Won’t Put Them to Sleep

Why won’t poppies put them to sleep, and who exactly is “them”?

It is a reference to The Wizard of Oz, a joke that won’t matter if it needs to be explained.

My poppies won’t put anyone to sleep because they are very bright. Here are the latest oil paintings in progress:

These two are finished (the clue is the signature).

These two aren’t finished (the clue is the messiness).

This one is finished (once again, the signature is your clue).

This one is less messy, but clearly unfinished.

Daylight was waning*, so I moved it inside to dry and will put the finishing touches on it another day.

*You can manipulate the clock all you want, but it will NOT create more daylight.

  1. Because the evil potion distributed upon the poppies only affected living beings, not mechanical creations or “straw men” as it were (see what I did there?).

Standard Time, Daylight Time, pick one and STAY THERE!

    • Sharon, why is it called “standard” time when we only get to have it 4-1/2 months a year? That doesn’t sound “standard” to me.

      • Good question. It USED to be 6 months of each, until we decided to create more daylight by cutting off one side of the blanket and sewing it onto the other side. (!)

I suppose we could call them “Dark AM” and “Light AM.” Whatever. Arizona doesn’t mess with this time change. Be like Arizona!

        • Hawaii doesn’t play the game either. No need, since every day of the year has the same dawn and dusk. Your analogy of the blanket is PERFECT!

          • Not interested in a climate where the temperatures don’t deviate from 60-70 degrees. I want seasons!

I am always amused when people say they like Daylight Saving Time because it “makes the days longer.” Um. Like you said, what the clock reads does not affect the amount of daylight!

          • I love seasons and really missed them for the few years I lived in Sandy Eggo.
            “Longer days”, my donkey.
