Sawtooth is an easy to distinguish peak in Mineral King, visible from Visalia when the wildfire smoke or the pollution from the Bay Area are not obscuring the view. Lots of people like to climb it. I think it is good to look at, but I am scared of climbing it. I am only interested in photographing, drawing and painting it.
My most recent pencil drawing of Sawtooth Peak:
And now I have begun a 24×24″ oil painting. Try not to be scared – it will get better.

That view is one of my favorites at Mineral King (I wish I could attach a photohere–I have one of that exact angle)!
And I admire your tenacity in posting a blog entry every day. If I knew anyone was reading mine, I would do the same.
Cheers!
Sharon, that view of Sawtooth is just above Wolverton Point, and each time I have photographed it from there this summer, it looked different (colors, clouds, light).
I don’t know if anyone is reading my blog to justify 5 posts a week – read by tens weekly? – but it is a deeply ingrained habit to post after 9 years!
Hmmm, where is Wolverton Point? My quintessential photo of Sawtooth with road is right above Burchell’s corral (now the Tar Gap trail parking) and right below what we called “Endurance Hill.”
Wolverton Point is the helipad just below Redwood Canyon. Looks like a wide spot in the road with a gate towards the canyon.
I have always been enamored by your art work and I have no doubt this painting will turn out lovely!
Thank you, Gina! Oil painting is sort of like pencil drawing, but instead of erasing, you just put another layer over the top.
