Yesterday I left you with the information that I am married to an animal. He went to within view of Monarch Lake, and then returned to me for the camera, which I gladly handed over, then resumed my semi-comatose state of gathering strength in the sunshine for the “walk” down.
Can you see the lake? It is beneath the peak sometimes referred to as “Sawtooth’s Shadow”. I think the real name is Mineral Peak. Anyone know for sure what this guy is called?
Here is the left side zoomed in.
And the right side.
And the view out to the Coast Range.
Did you know there is a sorry excuse for an outhouse at Monarch Lake?
See the 2 foxtail pines? They were just “right there”, but might as well have been in Rome for all my ability to reach them. You can see the shelf where the lake is just behind them. I didn’t care.
To be continued. . .

Also, the outhouse… it must have gotten blown down in a storm, there was broken up plywood everywhere. A total mess.
It got turned into firewood… haha.
That is Monarch Lake. Above the waterfall is a much bigger, dammed lake, that still had ice on it this last august.
The big question is, how the heck did you get up to Mineral King this time of the year?
Justin, we drove!
Steven, as I was writing this I thought I should just shut up about quitting, knowing you are laid up with your foot elevated! You will get out more when it is healed.
Don’t sell your own “animal” short Jana. You experienced that sublime spot, filling your lungs with alpine air, on what was an amazingly beautiful day, while the rest of us get off vicariously in our PJ’s looking at your nice photos. Thanks, but I got to get out more!
Cheryl, that is funny, because around here “good luck” is not defined as no snow! We are now praying for rain in the valley and snow in the mountains.
We haven’t had any snow that has stuck yet, and today is supposed to be a high of 63. Not exactly the way our January usually starts around here! Am hoping the good luck holds!
