What I Learned in April

It feels as if I already told you what I learned in all those listicles. These are just occurrences in my strange little world, not things I learned.

  1. My 12th blogiversary came and went without fanfare. I have published 2,816 times since April 15, 2008. Bless you for being here!
  2. I forgot a close friend’s 60th birthday; she has forgiven me.
  3. A quote to rework my website made my head spin; unsure of how to proceed.
  4. I miss the bulk bins at Winco almost as much as the library (although they were not a weekly visitation site for me like the library).
  5. A friend called #Hastag Hostess has encouraged me to post on Instagram 5 days a week. I am trying, but it ain’t natural-like. If you are into that particular thing, I am #janabotkinart.
  6. I have a pile of things to donate to the Goodwill but it isn’t open. Neither is the local thrift shop, but there is a leave-and-take bookshelf out front.
  7. Our cats are starting to rebel at their curfew, mostly Jackson.

How about a list of books I read:

Salt & Light, or Reading Rabbit, oil on board, 11×14″, Not for sale
  1. The Shell Seekers by Rosamunde Pilcher
  2. Coming Home by Rosamunde Pilcher
  3. Winter Solstice by Rosamunde Pilcher
  4. Get Your Life Back by John Eldredge
  5. Storybrand by Donald Miller
  6. Don’t Make Me Think (still reading this one)
  7. Words that Work by Frank Luntz (ditto)
  8. Hearing God by Dallas Willard (ditto)

What did you read?

What do you miss?

What is taking place in your strange little world?

  1. I miss my church and all those in it. My choir friends, my biblestudy friends. I miss the smiles and the hugs. I cannot wait until there is something besides the virus to read about in the newspapers!!!! I miss going out with friends for tea. I really miss the beach! I am tired of being patient. I am tired of doing all the projects I have put off and am now doing or have finished. I am thankful I am healthy, I am thankful I have a job to go back to, I am sooooo grateful for my wonderful husband thru these frustrations!! I am blessed:)

    • Melissa, that is quite a list!

    • Melissa, we have a lot in common, missing our church activities and choir friends! And ditto on the virus thing. I am so tired of hearing all the stats of who has it, and who has died. So depressing!

      • It is a tiresome subject.

  2. Reading a few books at the same time also.
Who Killed Homer – Victor Davis Hanson
The Road Back to You – Cron and Stabile
Get your Life Back – John Eldredge
The Hundred -Year Marathon – Michael Pillsbury

I love anything Rosamond Pilcher. You can re-read them forever!!
    Hugs,
    Melissa

    • Melissa, thank you for sharing your list. We share many of the same tastes.

  3. Happy May Day Jana…. what are those beautiful white flowers?

    • And Happy May Day to you, Janet! That is a “snowball bush”, which is in the spirea family.

  4. 1. I admire your diligence. My blog languishes while I waste time on Facebook and Twitter. Ah, Social Media!
    5. I’m not on Instagram but I believe your “handle” there would be @janabotkinart. A # identifies topics. A @ identifies account holder.

I need to get back into reading, especially since my tendinitis is rearing its ugly little head again (too much crocheting) but the first book I’ll pick up is “Valley of Vision,” a wonderful collection of Puritan prayers. It’s amazing how deep and thoughtful one’s prayers can be when one isn’t distracted by electronics of all kinds.

I miss my church family! I miss singing in the choir on Sunday mornings. I miss hugs, the fellowship, and Sunday morning bagels. And it looks like none of this will be happening in the near future. *sigh*

But I am feeling great, I’m healthy, I’m blessed beyond all measure, so why should I complain? God is good. All the time!

  5. Glad you’re attempting Instagram …. I prefer it to Facebook.

I’m a re- reader. Books like One Thousand Gifts- Ann Voscamp , Back in the Garden with Dulcy – Dulcy Mahar was a columnist for the Oregonian for years until her death. A trial and error gardener like me – with a fondness for four legged creatures… the friend I never met. Devotionals are Sing a New Song, a women’s guide to the psalms. Mike reads the Wall Street Journal cover to cover … I do not. Ha

I miss my community – church- friends- work out buddies-
    I miss hugging
I miss going with a friend in a car together ….

I’ve learned that Mike is a pretty good hairdresser … trimming my hair in the back.
I’ve learned that the gray is a nice little sparkle – not bad
I’ve learned less makeup is more youthful
I’ve learned I’m not a fan of Zoom
I’ve learned I’m pretty content puttering around the house
I’m more aware of the needs of my neighbors
