There is an art competition each year called “Celebrate Agriculture with the Arts”. This is a beautiful show with several categories that relate to agriculture: Dairy, Citrus, Irrigation, Cotton, etc. . . Artists can enter 2 categories, and this year I have 2 ideas for the same category. This is a no-no, because one would be competing with oneself if the same category were entered twice.

This is where you come in! Here are 2 different pieces of art for Farm Equipment And Structures. Since my choosing which piece might be akin to selecting my favorite cat (I love them all to distraction!), I am requesting help from you, my blog readers, in the hopes that you will be more objective than I am able to be.

These are not in order of my preference. Forsooth, if I had a preference, I wouldn’t be asking (begging and pleading and groveling) for your help! And there is no need for anyone to say, “I don’t know anything about art; I only know what I like” because this IS about what you like!

  1. I like the old wooden barn. The detail and light makes the barn stand out with the tractor ready for work! This ia a great sketch with fingers that come to life when drawing.

  2. Definitely A. Says ” I am a well established farm and I am inviting you in to see me.”

  3. Ummm, B, you just can’t beat a neat old barn, they are so cool.

  4. Jana! Choice is B, because it is forever “classic Jana,” as I know my beloved cousin started out her art expressions! LOVE YOU wads and tons!

  5. I prefer B. I love the detail; that barn has a history! To me, A is about the rock pillars, the tree. the gate, and oh, and by the way, there’s a barn in the background. (The tree is great.) Remember, you asked! You know how I like buildings which makes me vote for B.

  6. Sorry folks, I’m partial to “A” because of the color and because it reminds me of home.

  7. Choice is B, no question. Bob

  8. I’m trying to be objective here. Both are lovely, but the theme is equipment and structures and there is no equipment in A, you don’t really notice the barn and fence very much as they are in the background, and we don’t get to actually “see” the farmhouse beyond the open gates, delightful as that concept is, leaving the farmhouse and people waiting on the porch perhaps, to our imagination…

So my vote is B, too. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that B is a drawing and your drawings always contain amazing detail and such wonderfully warm sunlight. I hope you win, whichever you choose!

  9. Hi Jana- my fav is B all the way!!

So do you have something yummy for the citrus entry?? Show us what else you might be entering….

  10. I loved both. Beautiful colors on “A.”
I chose “B” for the rustic (worn) barn, great detail, looks very AG!

  11. Hi Jana,

Yep – what a difficult choice! I love the colors in Choice A —- and I’m ready to drive through the gate! However I love your attention to detail in Choice B.
Hmmm…..I want to go investigate the barn…..I choose B.
    Thanks for sharing!
    Lisa

  12. Wow, what a tough choice! But if I had to choose, I would choose “B.” The details are exquisite!
